I’m speaking at a marketing seminar in Austin

This post is not really for brides, but more for other photographers, and wedding professionals in Austin (and also for my mother). As many of you know, I’ve never bought an advertisement in a magazine, or paid for any advertising for my photography business. I’ve managed to build a successful destination wedding photography business using word of mouth marketing, and the internet. And I’m not the only one. Early next month a group of us are getting together to talk about how we did it, and I’d love to see you there.

Sarah & Adam are both in the military up at Ft. Hood. Later this year, they are tying the knot at the Vineyard at Florence. But first, they wanted to have some fun engagement pictures that said a bit about who they were. We headed out to Temple, Tx, one cold winter afternoon (the high that day was 38°), and had a ton of fun.

Natalie’s Bridal Pictures in Houston

Saturday was the wedding. That means I can now show the world these amazing bridal pictures. Thanks Natalie, for such a great time in Houston’s Museum District. The bridal poses are incredible! Your wedding pictures from Nature’s Point will be ready in a few weeks.

This photo reminds me of the kind of pictures in the Anthropologie catalog

This was the image Natalie chose to display at the wedding. It was taken right across from hotel ZaZa, and was made into a 16x24 custom fiber print by Holland Photo Lab.

Weddings Unveiled Austin at Vintage Villas

Weddings Unveiled is hosting another intimate Bridal show, as they do every few weeks. The Vintage Villas show is this Sunday from 3 until 5. Since it’s before the Super Bowl, we’re telling brides that they can bring their fiance for a romantic afternoon–we’ll serve him a cold beer and make sure he’s home in time for kick off. Or, brides can leave their fiances in front of the pre-game show and make the event a girls’ day complete with bellinis, hors d’oeuvres and chocolate truffles. I’ve actually participated in a Weddings Unveiled Show. It was fun! I’m not participating in this one (for obvious reasons – it’s Superbowl Sunday), but there are tons of other great vendors! Check it out.

18 Wedding Album Companies

I was amazed when I began to look for professional wedding albums. I thought it would be super easy to find a comprehensive list. Wouldn’t it? Well I couldn’t. So I made one. Most of these companies only deal with professional photographers. If you are a pro, I’m curious as to which company you use (leave me a note in the comments) and your experiences with them. And if you are a bride, you might want to ask your photographer which company they use to make your wedding album.

I had only one requirement when assembling this list. They had to make a 8×10 inch 20 page album. It didn’t matter if the pages were rigid or flexible, or what kind of printing process they used. I then contacted each of these companies directly, and got a catalog and price list. Then I ordered them by price – The Blurb came in at less than $50, and La Vie will run you deep into the 4-figure range. (I’ve actually seen a LaVie, and it is a beautiful handcraftedJapanese work of art).

I personally feel that a professionally designed wedding album is the best way to preserve and showcase your wedding pictures. You don’t need any batteries, or computer screens to look at them when they are professionally printed and bound in a beautiful leather volume. But beware, it takes time to design, print, and bind a wedding book. It’s a process you shouldn’t rush. I don’t.

Leather Craftsmen Wedding Albums

I’m always trying out new wedding album companies to find the very best way for you to display and archive your wedding photos.

Today I’m showing off the Leather Craftsman 3500 series flush mount wedding album.

What is a flush mount wedding album? I’m glad you asked. It’s a book where the pages are mounted flush to the page. It is a more modern style wedding book, unlike the older versions where the picture was glued behind a paper frame in the album. This style of flush mounting gives a cleaner look, in my opinion. When you choose a flush mount album, the entire page is a single photo, so you can use a design program to style the image, and make designs, or multiple images on the same page. Personally, I like to put only a few images on each page, that way the pictures are bigger, and clearer, and easier to see.

Take a look at the photos below to see the craftsmanship and quality. It takes a long time to design and manufacture these books, so if you choose this style please be patient. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

This LC wedding album is 8 inches tall, 10 inches long and covered in distressed brown leather

This is a flush mount album spine. Notice how the images are mounted flush to the page, and the pages lie flat when the wedding album is fully open.

Why do I need 3 wedding albums? One large one for you, and two smaller ones for each set of parents.

I prefer to do a simple wedding album design, featuring large images. Yes, this means few pictures per page, but the images are bigger, so you can see them better.
