Not just your run of the mill chapter 7, Nope, I’ve done deleted all 400+ feeds from my NetNewsWire.
There are some blgos that I will miss. Sincerely. But such a great many were just plain stupid. I’m so over the wedding photographer blog wannabees. Don’t you get it? Today’s bride has a bulshit radar, (not unlike gaydar) and can rat out sincerity like a dog finds every crumb that fell from the Thanksgiving table.
It just got ridiculous, like a never ending contest about who could post the worst content. The titles told it all – 26 ways to attract readers to your blog, Austin Engagement Photos, Weddings at the Biltmore Estate, 17 elements for a Platinum wedding, Canon vs Nikon, What is the best camera lens. Crap, Crap, Crap. I wasn’t immune either. If you look back at some of the early posts on my very own site, you will see what I am talking about.
Filtering the noise was like trying to hear a cell phone at a Blue October concert. Sure, over time, I added each feed for a reason: some were friends blogs (sorry guys, you need to ping me if you still have a blog, and I’ll re-add it), others were wedding photographers in Austin and around the world (and I added you to keep an eye on what you were doing), some had 1 or 2 interesting posts, and I wanted to see if they would consistently deliver great content. But when I woke up this morning to check the feed I saw 1254 unread posts. Yeah, that was from one skipped weekend. I quickly began to read the posts. Nothing stood out.
With a simple select all (ctrl-a) and a quick delete, the list of names disappeared faster than a dozen doughnuts at an Emergency room nurses desk.
I am slowly re-starting my list – and the bar is set high. I am looking for great blogs. Fantastic stuff. Wow me, and I’ll add you – do not disappoint me.
