Villages at the Domain

As a current resident of the Domain, let me tell you that I was a bit surprised to see the giant banner flying on the side of one of the new buildings.  As I drove up MoPac, there it was, 2 stories high, and just as wide, the new Villages at the Domain.

I’m guessing that the Residences at the Domain changed their name, and is trying to rebrand themselves due to all the negative ratings one can find with a quick google search.

After a quick look at the on-line floor plans, It looks like the new Villages at the Domain has raised their prices from the old Residences at the Domain.  I also don’t see as many patios attached to the units as the ones in the older section.

Frankly, I was kind of surprised to see them building apartments where the did.  There are some units that back directly up to active railroad tracks.  If you want to see for your self, just park behind Macy’s and look toward the freeway to see the tracks for yourself.  If you think you won’t be able to hear a freight train, think again.  I hear it all the time.

When I moved into an apartment at the Domain, I was told they were quiet, upscale, and exclusive.  In the 2 years that I have been a tenant, I have had problems with my water bill, issues with neighbors having parties late into the night (3:00 am), two different management companies, and a construction team coming in to remodel our unit while we still lived here.

Mostly it is just plain loud.  I can hear every neighbor when they get up, or leave, as the doors automatically slam, every morning the gardners use gas-powered leaf blowers starting sometime before 8:00, and the construction continues around the clock.

Sure the stores and restaurants are great, but there isn’t a place to grab a cheap sandwich within walking distance.  Many of the retailers at the Domain are suffering due to the current economic downturn, too.  Thankfully, I’ll be moving to my new house just across the freeway (where my monthly payments are the exact same), and won’t have to deal with the day to day issues of living at the Domain anymore.
