Sure, the economy is taking a turn for the worse right now. But I still think we need to treat ourselves every once in a while. I have several guilty pleasures, and the first one of my day is usually Starbucks. Weekdays I like to sit outside with a simple tall cappuccino (in one of the real white cups that are for in-store use), and a croissant. On weekends when I’m not working, I get up early and grab a single espresso for me, and a Tall Chai Tea Latte with a piece of pumpkin bread for my wife.
So I guess I’m a heavy user. Last week I was offered a Starbucks Gold card by my barista – and of course I jumped on it. In the past I have used a regular Starbucks Card, loading it up with $100 every few months, and using only that for my purchases. Using that single card, it makes sure I stay on budget, and don’t spend more than I have.
The Starbucks Gold card works the same way. Once registered, I get 10% off most purchases, special discounts, a special treat on my birthday, and special e-mail rewards throughout the year.
The card is black and gold. It looks cool. It makes me feel special when I use it. And I get comments from others around me when they see it. It makes my regular Starbucks experience a bit better.
