Earlier this week a bunch of us local Austin Wedding Photographers (and some Portrait shooter’s too) gathered at the funky South Austin Pad of Suzi-Q to hear two incredible wedding filmmakers.

Joe Simon of Joe Simon Productions and Chris Jones of Mason Jar Documentaires brought in some samples of their wedding videos.  This is not your Parent’s wedding videos – not by a longshot.  About the only thing in common with the older cheezy style of wedding film is that the actual film is the same – Super-8.  Everything else is totally different.  These are incredible wedding documentaries, actual video stories of your day.

We talked about how videographers can help photographers, how they select the music, what kind of gear they use (Canon 5D, HD, Old 8mm movie cameras), and how they edit to prepare both the final version, and short preview versions of the wedding videos.

I’m simply blown away by the quality, and creativity in these two guys.  I had no idea that someone could make a TV quality movie at a wedding.  I don’t know how they can make your wedding look like an episode of the Hills – but they do.  If you want to see samples of their work, be sure to check out their blogs and websites using the links above.

If you aren’t in Austin, and have stumbled upon this page from a Google search, I know these two do destination weddings, too.

Whats with the heavy vinetting? Is that a Nikon thing? ;) Sorry I missed out on this one but I think I might have saved everyone from my upper respiratory infection!

Actually Dave – These are all Film Scans –
Nikon F5 with a 35mm lens (with a 50mm hood for the vignette)
Fuji 400 Pro H pushed to 200

The red hue in some of the pics comes from the maroon wall in the LR that I bounced the Flash (SB-28) off of.

Geez, I love film.
