Today I had to upgrade one of my hard drives inside my Mac Pro Tower computer. Not because of a crash or anything catastrophic, but because I filled it up. Topped off the hard drive, maxed it out.
I know, most of you are wondering what an Aperture Library is. Aperture is the program I use to edit all the wedding photos. I use it for everything organizing, making selects, creating albums, and even retouching. Aperture doesn’t have as many features as Photoshop. After reviewing Adobe Photoshop, I realized that I don’t need all the tools it offers.
Aperture is Apple’s flagship Professional Image Management Program. It has a ton of features and is super fast. Of course it does a great job of making your photos look like a million bucks, all without ever changing your original photo. Aperture is iPhoto on Steroids, fast and powerful.
I can go back to weddings from 5 years ago, and the original digital negative is absolutely untouched. Aperture keeps a file of all the instructions to the photo in a database, and so whenever I do an edit, the instructions are taken from a file, and put over the photo. This is called non-destructive editing, and it ensures that your wedding pictures remain perfect.
The Aperture library also organizes all my photos like a library card catalog. I keep all your original wedding pictures on a separate server in my office, and aperture make sure I can access any picture instantly. I can rate photos, search by bride and groom, or venue, or florist, or camera model, or any combination of 100 different ways. Basically I just type in what I am looking for, and Aperture shows me the pics I want.
After all these years, the hard drive with all the instructions got filled up. So I took out the 75 gig Hard drive, and put in a 500 gig model. This should take care of any problems for the next few years.
