When Gordon called me, he said his wedding was going to be Unique. OK, I thought. I’ve done a bunch of weddings in Austin, and around the world. I can handle unique. He told me it was uber causal, at his uncle’s house near Mansfield Dam, and that people were coming in from all over the country. No problem. I asked my usual series of questions, and ended with one about the dress - would I need flip flops or a Tuxedo. He answered “something inbetween”.
What he should have said is none of the above.
Each and every wedding I photograph is full of joy, and there are so many little details planned out by the couple to make their big day special. But his wedding was different – from the watermelon that was served before the ceremony to the Dia Del las Muertas cake toppers at the end, everywhere I turned there was something unique, and individual to these two. But these details didn’t make it special.
Each and every guest, from their family who lived locally, to their friends that flew in from each coast, fully supported this union in both spirit and actions. There was dancing, and hugging, tears and laughter. Every emotion was expressed in the name of Joy.
Thanks Gordon & Kamara for allowing me to be a part of your wedding. I’ll never forget it.
