Normally at weddings I don’t get a lot of time to sit relax. I’m just too busy snapping pictures of your guests, moments, and details. Then when I am able to rest my barking dogs it’s usually in a dark closet, or behind the smokers at the wedding, or somewhere else just as unattractive. But last weekend, while photographing a wedding reception at Green Pastures, I got to enjoy 18 minutes of Texas Bliss.
You see, Green Pastures is a on the Registry of National Historic Places Historic Landmark – It’s a really old house that’s been converted to a Restaurant. They serve mostly authentic southern cuisine, and anyone who has been to the South knows that on a hot day there is only one thing to drink – and that’s sweet iced tea.
While the guests were lining up to fill their plates at the buffet, I found a table in the shade on the whitewashed back porch. I set my Leicas down on the table, and looked out over the grounds behind the main house. The ceiling fans lazily turned, just stirring the hot, sticky, austin air enough to make it comfortable. Before I even knew it, one of the wait staff came over with a tall glass filled with Ice, lemon, and the sweet brown elixir. Condensation was forming on the side of the tall glass… This was the real deal.
After a my 2nd glass (or was it 3rd) I began to wander around and get some shots of the grounds and landscapes surrounding Green Pastures. The rest of the wedding photos will be in my gallery soon (send me your email, and I’ll send you the password). Enjoy!
